The state of Kuwait has hosted a symposium held by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on "Nuclear Applications for Sustainable Development in GCC Member States", which took place on the 15 to 16 February 2016.

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations Sadiq Marafi, announced the participation of the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano.

H.E. Sadiq Marafi speaking to KUNA said, “The symposium that was held under the auspices of the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak, focused on intensifying the cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the GCC Member States in the field of peaceful applications of nuclear cooperation.”

He explained that the symposium has also highlighted the International Atomic Energy Agency work in assisting Member States on the use of science and technology, in response to the challenges of the 21st century in vital areas, such as food and agriculture, human health and environmental resource management.

The Ambassador added that the symposium that was held for the first time at this level in the region has also addressed the IAEA laboratories in Seibersdorf "in Vienna, as a scientific and research centers that support the Agency's activities in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear technology.

Moreover, H.E.Sadiq Marafi has stressed Kuwait’s full commitment to support the Agency's programs, designed to achieve a more secure and peaceful world, in addition to strengthening Kuwait leading role in International Organizations and forums. For H.E. closing remarks on the Symposium Click here!

It is to mention that the nuclear applications laboratories in "Seibersdorf, administered by the Department of safeguards, nuclear sciences and applications management agency provides innovative technologies, and training for scientists and experts of 162 Member States, namely to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
